What Are Dental Veneers?

Veneers are thin, custom-made covers that sit on the front of your teeth. They can change the shape, size, length or colour of your teeth to give you a more even smile.

Most people get teeth veneers in Geelong to fix things such as:

  • Stains that whitening won’t shift
  • Chipped, cracked or worn teeth
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Uneven or oddly shaped teeth
  • Minor crookedness

Composite and Porcelain Veneers in Geelong

There are two main types of dental veneers at Geelong West Dental: porcelain and composite. The right one for you depends on your goals, your teeth, your gum health and your budget. We offer both porcelain and composite veneers in Geelong West at our Pakington Street clinic.

Porcelain Veneers Geelong

Porcelain veneers in Geelong are made from ceramic using our in-house CEREC machine. They’re strong, don’t stain easily, and look like natural teeth. They’re a good fit if you want to refresh several teeth or your whole smile, and they usually last 10 to 15 years or more if you look after them.

Composite Veneers Geelong

Composite veneers in Geelong are built up directly on your teeth using a tooth-coloured resin. They can usually be done in a single visit and cost less than porcelain. They’re a good option for tidying up the shape of a tooth, closing a small gap or covering minor staining. They usually last 5 to 7 years.

Benefits of Dental Veneers

Beyond making your smile look better, dental veneers in Geelong come with a few practical upsides:

Natural-looking Finish

Porcelain and composite veneers are matched in colour and shape to your other teeth.

Made For You

Each one is shaped and shaded to suit your face and your smile using Digital Smile Design.

Hard to Stain

Porcelain veneers hold up well against coffee, tea and red wine.

Gentle on Your Teeth

Only a thin layer of enamel needs to be reshaped during prep.

Long-lasting

Porcelain veneers usually last 10 to 15 years or more; composite veneers usually last 5 to 7 years.

Often Done in One Visit

Composite veneers and same-day CEREC porcelain veneers can often be finished in a single appointment.

Fixes More Than One Thing

Veneers can sort out colour, shape, chips and small gaps all in one go.

The Dental Veneers Process at Geelong West Dental

Step 1: Consultation & Smile Design

Your first visit is a free consultation. We check your teeth and gums, take digital scans and photos, then use Digital Smile Design to show you a preview of what your new smile could look like. You give us the thumbs up before we go any further.

Step 2: Preparation & Fitting

We gently reshape the front of each tooth and take a digital scan. For porcelain veneers, we either mill the final set in-house with CEREC the same day, or fit you with temporaries while your final veneers are made. For composite veneers, we shape and bond them straight onto your teeth in one visit.

Step 3: Final Bond & Review

We try the final veneers on, check the fit and colour with you, then bond them in place. You come back for a follow-up so we can check your bite and gums, and we’ll give you simple aftercare tips to keep them looking their best.

Dental Veneers Geelong FAQs

Am I a candidate for dental veneers?

Veneers work best if your teeth and gums are healthy, you have enough enamel on your teeth, and you keep up with regular brushing and flossing. If you have tooth decay, gum disease or quite crooked teeth, we’ll need to sort those out first or alongside your veneers. We’ll check if veneers are right for you at your consultation.

How much do dental veneers cost in Geelong?

The cost of veneers in Geelong depends on whether you go with porcelain or composite, how many teeth you’re treating, and how complex the work is. Come in for a free consultation and we’ll give you an upfront quote. We also offer interest-free payment plans so you can spread out the cost.

Does getting veneers hurt?

We use a local anaesthetic where it’s needed, and only a thin layer of enamel is reshaped, so most people don’t find it sore. If you’re nervous about dental work, we offer happy gas and sleep dentistry to help you relax.

How long do dental veneers last?

With good care, porcelain veneers usually last 10 to 15 years or more, and composite veneers usually last 5 to 7 years. Things like grinding your teeth, biting your nails or chewing on hard objects can wear them out faster. Regular check-ups help us keep an eye on them.

How do I look after my veneers?

A few simple habits go a long way:

  • Brush twice a day with a soft toothbrush and a gentle toothpaste, and floss carefully around each veneer.
  • Don’t bite down on hard things like ice, pens or your fingernails.
  • Try to go easy on staining drinks like coffee, tea and red wine, especially with composite veneers.
  • Wear a nightguard if we suggest one, especially if you grind your teeth at night.
  • Come in for your regular check-up and clean so we can keep your veneers and natural teeth in good shape.

Are there any risks with dental veneers?

Like any dental treatment, there are a few things to be aware of:

  • Your teeth might feel a bit sensitive for one to two weeks after fitting.
  • Porcelain veneers can’t be reversed because a thin layer of enamel is removed.
  • Veneers can chip or come loose, especially if you grind your teeth or bite down too hard on them.
  • Over time, your natural teeth might change colour and no longer match the veneers. We can fix this with whitening or by replacing the veneers.

We’ll talk you through all of this at your consultation before you decide to go ahead.
